State of New Jersey v. CG
Outcome: 1st Degree Carjacking and Attempted Murder charges reduced to a 3rd Degree Possession of a Weapon with time served
Description: The client and the codefendant were charged with Carjacking, Attempted Murder, Possession of a Shotgun, Aggravated Assault and related charges. If convicted, the charges exposed the client to a State Prison sentence of 30 years just on the Carjacking count. The client was also exposed to consecutive sentencing for the Attempted Murder, which combined would likely have kept him in prison for most of his life. The State’s case against the client was based on the out-of-court identifications of the client by the victim and an eyewitness. During Motion practice, the defense was able to suppress the identifications, which weakened the State case to point where State offered the client a plea to the 3rd degree charge with immediate release. The client accepted the plea, was released, and is now living with his family in another State.
